So I was messing around with some old wrestling stuff, you know, trip down memory lane and all that. And I got stuck on this WWE scratch logo thing. You’ve probably seen it – the big “W” with another “W” underneath, all scratched up like it’s been through a few cage matches itself. This bad boy was everywhere back in the day, right?
I started digging around a bit, just to see when this logo actually kicked off. Turns out, WWE officially started using the scratch logo around 1998, but some folks are saying it was really the end of 1997, like November 9th, at some big event called Survivor Series. That was during the Attitude Era, you know, when everything was louder, wilder, and more in-your-face. That logo fit the vibe perfectly – all rough around the edges, kind of like the wrestlers themselves.
I remember seeing that logo on everything back then – T-shirts, posters, video games, the whole nine yards. It just screamed “Attitude.” Then, around ten years ago, they decided to change it. I guess they wanted something cleaner, more “family-friendly,” as they say.
- First, I tried to find some old videos from the Attitude Era, just to see the logo in action.
- Then, I looked up some stuff about the history of the logo, like when it started and why they changed it.
- Finally, I even checked out some fan forums to see what other people thought about the whole logo switch-up.
Man, it brought back some memories, I gotta say. The scratch logo was such a big part of that whole era. Some people were mad when they changed it, saying it was like losing a piece of history. Others were cool with it, figuring it was time for something new.

The Legacy
You know, looking back, I realized that the scratch logo was more than just a corporate symbol. It really represented a specific time in wrestling history. It was bold, it was brash, and it was definitely not trying to please everybody. It was during a period when I followed wrestling a lot. Nowadays, it’s not really my thing anymore, but I still check out the big events. Whether you loved it or hated it, that logo’s a classic. Kind of makes you wonder what they’ll come up with next, right?
