So, I went out to play golf today. I love this game, but let me tell you, it can be a real pain in the butt sometimes.
I started off okay, feeling pretty good about my swing. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and I thought, “This is going to be a great day.” I teed off on the first hole, and the ball went pretty straight, not my best, but not terrible either. I walked up to my ball, feeling optimistic, and took my second shot.
And then, it all went downhill.
I don’t know what happened. Maybe I got overconfident, maybe I just lost my focus, or maybe the golf gods decided to have a laugh at my expense. But one bad shot led to another, and before I knew it, I was in trouble.

- I sliced a ball into the woods on the third hole and spent ten minutes looking for it.
- On the fifth, I hit it into a water hazard. Twice.
- By the time I got to the ninth hole, I was ready to throw my clubs into the lake and call it a day.
My score was, well, let’s just say it was not pretty. It was the kind of score that makes you question your life choices. I think Jim Furyk once shot a 59, but I was nowhere near that. In fact, I was the opposite of that. I was in the triple digits, folks, and I’m not proud of it.
I finished the round, signed my scorecard, and walked off the course with my head held low. It wasn’t my best day, that’s for sure. But you know what? That’s golf.
Some days you’re the bug, and some days you’re the windshield.
Today, I was definitely the bug. But tomorrow is a new day, and who knows, maybe I’ll go out there and shoot the best round of my life. Or maybe I’ll shoot even worse. That’s the beauty of this crazy game, you just never know.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my misery with you all. If you’re a golfer, you know what I’m talking about. And if you’re not, well, consider yourself lucky. But also, maybe give it a try sometime. It’s a humbling experience, to say the least.
I’m gonna go ice my shoulder now and maybe cry a little. Until next time, keep it in the short grass, folks. Or try to, at least.
