So, I was messing around with this crossword puzzle, right? And the clue was something like “WNBA great who took the 2007 season off.” I was stumped for a bit, not gonna lie. I mean, I follow basketball, but I’m not exactly a walking encyclopedia of WNBA history, you know?
First, I started by hitting up the usual spots online, you know, those crossword solver websites. Typed in the clue, and boom, a bunch of answers popped up. Most of them had something about 40, 30 answers and also something related to a player who took off 2007 for pregnancy and return in the next year. But it’s just a name, and I wanted to know the story behind it, get the details, feel me?
So, I dug a little deeper. I started reading about the WNBL, the Women’s National Basketball League. I learned that back in 2006, they decided to add two new teams for the 2007/2008 season: the Bendigo Spirit and the Christchurch Sirens. Sounds like a big deal, right? Bringing in new teams always shakes things up.
- Read about Lauren Jackson.
- Apparently, she’s a legend. Retired, came back in 2022, and retired again in 2024.
- She’s in, like, every Basketball Hall of Fame. That’s serious.
Digging Deeper into WNBL
Then I stumbled upon some news about the WNBL’s new CEO, Jennie Sager. Leading a bold new era for women’s basketball, that’s what they said. Sounds exciting. And I also found out about Cayla George, another player. She grew up in South Australia and played netball before switching to basketball. Interesting, right?

So yeah, that’s what I’ve been up to. Turning a simple crossword clue into a whole exploration of the WNBA and the WNBL. It’s been a fun ride, learning about these amazing athletes and the history of the league. Who knew a crossword puzzle could lead to all this, right?
It is really fun to explore the clue and learn something new. I am so satisfied that I find the answer and learn some extra information related to this clue.
