Well, let me tell you about this Westwood tennis thing. You know, they got this fancy place, Westwood, where folks go to play tennis. I heard it’s a big deal. They call it Westwood Country Club. Sounds kinda uppity, don’t it? But hey, if you got the money, I reckon you can play there.
Now, how much does it cost to play tennis at Westwood? That’s what everyone’s yappin’ about. It ain’t cheap, I can tell ya that much. They say it’s a lot of money, especially if you want to join that club and be a real member. Not sure I’d fit in with that fancy crowd, though I do like a good game of tennis. If it was cheap, it would be very good, right? I’m sure many people would love to pay to play tennis at Westwood.
They got all these courts, see? Some are made of that hard stuff, plexi-somethin’. And others are made of clay. Thirteen of the hard ones and six of the clay ones. All lighted up, so you can play even when it’s dark out. That’s a lot of courts. And they got these tennis pros there, folks who teach you how to play real good. Five of ’em, I hear. Must be nice to have someone show you how to whack that ball just right.
They say it’s the best place to play tennis in the whole area of Austin. That’s down in Texas, you know. Big state, Texas. Lots of room for tennis, I guess. But it’s the best one in Austin. The best tennis place in Austin, they say. It has to be good to play there.
Now, if you wanna join this Westwood place, it’s gonna cost ya. They got these “initiation fees,” whatever that means. Sounds like some kind of secret handshake to me. And then you gotta pay every month, too. Like rent, but for tennis. Someone said it was around 250 dollars a month, just to be a member of the family! That’s a lot of money for a family! It’s enough to buy many chickens.

There are different types of membership, so many kinds. You have to ask them what kind you need. If you’re new, they got a special deal for you, but it is still money. Lots of folks don’t have that kinda money just layin’ around. It’s probably good if you want to play Westwood tennis. You pay them, then you are a member.
I heard some folks payin’ 57 somethin’ a month. That’s still a lot, but not as much as that other number. And that’s just for playin’ at certain times. Like, you can only go early in the mornin’ or on the weekends. They call that “off-peak.” Imagine payin’ all that money and still not bein’ able to play whenever you want.
And if you want your kids to learn, oh boy, that’s a whole other thing. They got lessons for the young’uns, startin’ at age six. But you gotta buy ’em special rackets and shoes and all that. And then they gotta play in these tournaments, which costs even more money. They say it can be thousands of dollars a year, just for the kids to learn to play! And that’s just for regular lessons, not even the fancy private ones.

It is very expensive if you want to be a pro. They say it’s like, 90,000 or 100,000 dollars a year. That’s more money than I’ve ever seen in my whole life! For one year! They gotta travel all over, and they got a whole team of people helpin’ ’em. It ain’t just whackin’ a ball, that’s for sure. There’s a lot that goes into it, lots of things to pay for.
I guess if you really love tennis, and you got the money, then maybe it’s worth it. But for most folks, it’s just too much. It’s a rich person’s game, that’s what it is. It’s not like the old days. Seems like everything costs money these days. But if you want to pay to play tennis at Westwood, you have to be prepared for the cost.
This Westwood tennis is a big deal, but it is just for rich people. If you have money, you can play. If you don’t, well, you better find somewhere else to hit that ball. Maybe in your own backyard, like we used to. There are some other Westwood gyms, but I don’t know how much it costs to join them. It could be less money, or it could be more. It’s hard to say.
