Well, folks, if you live round here in Winona, you might’ve heard ’bout all the sports action goin’ on lately. I tell ya, there’s been some mighty fine performances from our local athletes that sure do make us proud. If you ain’t been keepin’ up, lemme fill ya in on what’s been happenin’ around here.
Now, first things first, let me tell ya ’bout them three younguns from the Winona area who made it up to the podium at the MSHSL state track meet. That’s right, they was runnin’ faster than a jackrabbit on a hot day! They did us proud, bringin’ home some shiny medals and all. It don’t matter what sport it is, when our folks get up there, they sure do give it their all. And these kids? Well, they just proved it again!
Then there’s them boys from the Winona Senior High School cross country team. They went out to Rochester, and I’ll tell ya, they ran like the wind. They ended up takin’ the Section 1AA championship, and don’t that just make you swell with pride? Ain’t no easy feat, I tell ya that. Every time they race, it’s like they’re chasin’ after the wind itself!
Oh, and don’t forget the Winona softball team. They’re somethin’ else, ain’t they? For the third year in a row, them girls are headed to the state! I tell ya, they’re like a well-oiled machine, just workin’ together like one big family. I reckon it’s gonna be another good year for ‘em, and I got a feelin’ they’re gonna bring home some more hardware to hang up in the school gym. Them girls just don’t stop, do they?
Now, I don’t know if y’all been watchin’ the baseball scene, but let me tell ya, we got some real talent comin’ outta Winona. This year’s All-Area Baseball Team had nine first-team players, includin’ one Player of the Year. I reckon them boys are swingin’ bats like they’re choppin’ down trees, and that’s somethin’ to be proud of! It don’t come easy, but them boys work hard, and it shows in their game.
And while we’re talkin’ sports, let’s not forget them soccer boys. Ain’t nothin’ like watchin’ ‘em kickin’ that ball up and down the field. They’re tough, and they got heart. Whether it’s soccer, track, or cross country, these Winona kids got spirit in spades.
Well, if you ask me, the thing that really gets me excited is seein’ all these young people puttin’ in the work and showin’ what they’re made of. It don’t matter if it’s a cross country race or a softball game, these kids know how to give it their all. And I tell ya, there’s nothin’ better than hearin’ about the wins and the way they carry themselves. We got some real stars right here in Winona, and I couldn’t be more proud of ‘em!
So if you ever get a chance, go out there and support ‘em. Whether it’s at the track, the field, or the gym, they sure do appreciate it when the community shows up to cheer ‘em on. Keep an eye on these younguns, ‘cause I’m tellin’ ya, they’re goin’ places!
