Okay, here’s my story about the Hershey Columbus Day soccer tournament.
So, this past Columbus Day weekend, I decided to take the family up to Hershey, Pennsylvania, for a soccer tournament. My youngest, he’s on a U10 travel team, and they were playing in the Hershey Columbus Day Soccer Tournament. We packed up the car Friday night, made sure we had all the soccer gear, snacks, drinks, you name it, and hit the road early Saturday morning.
The drive up wasn’t too bad, about three hours. We got to Hershey, checked into our hotel, and then headed straight for the soccer fields. I tell you, the place was buzzing. There were teams everywhere, from little U4 kids just starting out, to the older U15 players, and it was awesome seeing how much they all loved the game.
My son’s team, they were scheduled to play three games over the weekend. The first game, they were a little nervous, I think. It was a tough match, but they played their hearts out. They ended up losing that one, but it was a close game, and they really gave it their all. They played the next two game and they did good jobs. And I think everyone enjoyed the game.

Between games, we explored the area a bit. We checked out some of the local shops. Hershey is a cool little town, especially if you’re into soccer. I heard that Hershey Soccer Club is a Grassroots soccer club.
We didn’t make it to the playoffs, but honestly, it didn’t even matter. The kids had a blast, we got to spend some quality time together as a family, and we made some great memories. Plus, we got to see some really good soccer. It seemed that the program focuses on enjoying the game while developing basic skills and fitness. I saw that some team named West Schuylkill FC would play in the tournament next year. I think we’ll definitely be back next year.
And you know what the best part was? Seeing the smile on my son’s face the whole weekend. That’s what it’s all about, right?
