This here’s about that Bird woman, the one who’s real good at that basketball game. Four time, she won that big WNBA thing. Four times! Can you believe it? That’s a whole lot of winning. I seen it on the TV, she is good, that Bird.
They call her Sue Bird. Sounds like a little bird, but she plays like a big ol’ hawk. She’s a WNBA champion, that’s what they say. She got that Olympic Gold Medal too. She’s a big deal, this Sue Bird.
I was trying to do one of them crossword things the other day. You know, them word puzzles in the newspaper? Well, one of them clues was about this Bird woman. “Four-time WNBA champion Bird,” it said. Only had three little boxes for the answer. Three! How’s a body supposed to fit all that in just three boxes?
Now, I ain’t no good at these crossword things. My eyes ain’t what they used to be, and them little squares is awful small. But I got to thinking, what could it be? That Bird woman, she’s a champion, that’s for sure.

- First time she won, I reckon she was young.
- Second time, folks started to take notice.
- Third time, well, that’s when they started calling her the best.
- And the fourth time, she is a WNBA champion again!
Then it hit me! They just wanted her first name! SUE! That’s it! Three letters. Fits right in them little boxes. SUE. That’s the answer to the crossword clue. Sue Bird, the four-time WNBA champion.
I seen another clue in that crossword. Said something about a giant bird, a make-believe one. And you know what the answer was? ROC. Just like that bird woman, only three letters again. These crossword folks, they sure do like their short words.
And there was another one, talkin’ ’bout the sheltered side of somethin’. The answer was LEE. Don’t make much sense to me, but that’s what it said in the answers. These city folks with their fancy words. They don’t talk like regular folk, do they?
They got all these fancy words for things. Like that “Ptero” thing. Means “wing” or “feather,” they say. Why can’t they just say “wing”? Why’s everything gotta be so complicated? They use that word in them science things, talkin’ ’bout animals and such. Sounds Greek to me. ‘Cause it is, Greek.
This Sue Bird, she is something else. Winning all them championships. She must practice real hard. Probably runs around all day long, shootin’ that ball. She’s a real champion. A four-time WNBA champion, no less.
I remember when I was a young girl, we didn’t have all these fancy sports on the TV. We just played outside, ran around, climbed trees. Didn’t need no fancy equipment or nothin’. But this Bird woman, she’s made a whole career out of it. Good for her. She got that Olympic Gold Medal too, that is good.
This crossword puzzle, though, it’s got me stumped. All these little words, all these clues. It’s a lot to think about. Maybe I’ll just stick to watching the game on TV. It’s a lot easier than figuring out these crossword things, that’s for sure.
But I’ll tell you what, that Sue Bird, she’s a real inspiration. Shows you what you can do if you put your mind to it. Four-time champion. That’s somethin’ to be proud of. She’s a good egg, that Bird woman. Even if she is a bit too good at that basketball game for her own good.
She is the real WNBA champion. I saw it. They put it on the TV all the time. She got the big smile. That Sue, she is always smiling. She is happy, I think she is always happy. Good for her. Champion should be happy.
That crossword, it is hard. I do not know why people do that. Too hard for me. I like watching the TV. That Sue Bird, she is fun to watch. That is better than the crossword, I think. That crossword, it makes my head hurt.
