Alright, let’s talk about this tennis thing, you know, score hunter tennis. I don’t know much fancy stuff, but I’ve watched them young’uns play on TV. And let me tell you, it ain’t all about whacking the ball hard. You gotta be smart about it, like figuring out how to get more points than the other fella.
First off, you gotta learn how to hit the ball right. They call it forehand and backhand, sounds fancy, huh? Just means hitting it from one side then the other. Practice that, make sure the ball goes where you want it, not flyin’ off into the neighbor’s yard.
Now, when you’re playin’ a real match, things get tricky. If you’re stuck way back, behind that line they got, you gotta hit the ball high and across the court. High and across, got it? It gives you time to get back in position. Don’t try to be a hero and hit some fancy shot, just get it back in play.
- When they serve that ball at you, try to hit it right down the middle. Takes away their fancy angles, see? They can’t trick you as easy. Smart, ain’t it?
- And speaking of serves, you gotta get that first one in. Don’t go for some super-fast thing if you can’t control it. Just get it in, maybe 6 or 7 times out of 10. That’s good enough.
They got these things called points, then games, then sets. Sounds complicated, but it ain’t. You win four points, you win a game. You win six games, you win a set. Most of the time, you win two sets, you win the whole darn match. Simple as that.

Some of them players, they like to run around a lot, they’re fast like little rabbits. They hit everything back. Others, they like to hit it hard and try to win the point quick. And then there’s the ones who like to sneak up to that net, they’re like cats waiting to pounce. Me? I’d just stand there and swat at it, but that ain’t gonna win you nothin’!
If you wanna be good, like them fellas on TV, you gotta be a little bit of everything. Gotta be fast, gotta be strong, and gotta be smart. You gotta know when to hit it hard, when to hit it soft, and when to just get it back in play. It’s like a chess match, but with more running around.
One thing these smart fellas on TV say is you gotta play aggressive. Don’t just wait for the other fella to make a mistake. You gotta go after it, take control. Hit the ball to where they ain’t, make ‘em run. And if you see a chance, run up to that net and finish the point.
Another thing they say is you gotta know what you’re good at, and what the other guy’s bad at. If you got a good forehand, use it! If the other guy can’t hit a backhand to save his life, hit it there all day long! Make ‘em work for it, wear ‘em down.
And don’t forget about that hard court, you know, the ones they play on TV most of the time. It’s fast and bouncy, so you gotta be ready. You gotta move your feet, get to the ball quick, and be ready to hit it hard. And you gotta control the pace. Don’t let the other guy rush you, take your time between points, catch your breath.
So there you have it, some things I learned watchin’ them tennis players. Ain’t nothin’ too fancy, just good common sense. Hit the ball where they ain’t, play aggressive, know your strengths, and don’t forget to breathe. And most importantly, have fun! Even an old lady like me can appreciate a good tennis match, even if I don’t understand all the fancy rules.
