Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about that Muckleshoot news. Ain’t nobody can deny that Muckleshoot folks have been around here a long time. Since way back in 1857, they had their reservation, but you know what? Them ancestors didn’t just sit there. Nope, they stuck to their villages till them settlers came and claimed all the land. And let me tell ya, that didn’t stop ’em. Folks from Muckleshoot made their homes around the Duwamish River, at the mouth of it, and other spots along the way.

Now, I ain’t gonna get too fancy on ya, but the Muckleshoot Tribe, they run their reservation now. They come from all sorts of folks like the Duwamish, Stkamish, Smulkamish, Skopamish, Yilalkoamish, and even Upper Puyallup. That’s a big ol’ mix, ain’t it? And they’ve got all kinds of traditions that they hold dear. You know, things like makin’ canoes, weavin’ them baskets, and they sure love gift-givin’ too. That’s somethin’ special right there, keepin’ them old ways alive.
But ya know, it ain’t all good news comin’ from the Muckleshoot side of things lately. Sad to say, there’s been some trouble, too. Just the other day, over at that Muckleshoot Casino, a young fella, only 29, lost his life. Ain’t no one expects somethin’ like that to happen, not when they’re out there just tryin’ to have a bit of fun. Poor guy was at the game tables, just playin’ like anyone else, when all of a sudden, he got caught up in a mess he didn’t see comin’. Was around 1:30 in the mornin’, police say, and that’s when the whole thing happened. Tragic, I tell ya.
And it ain’t the first time somethin’ like that’s happened at that casino. Just goes to show ya, no matter where you are, life can take a turn quick. You could be havin’ a good time, and in a blink, it’s all changed. Folks gotta be careful out there, ‘specially when there’s crowds and things get wild. I don’t know what’s gonna happen with all this, but I reckon the community’s feelin’ it hard. When someone gets hurt like that, everybody hurts with ‘em.
Still, that Muckleshoot Tribe, they’re strong. They’ve been through all sorts of things over the years, and I betcha they’re gonna keep on goin’, no matter what. They got their roots deep in the land, and no trouble at a casino is gonna change that. They’ve held on through the worst of times, and I reckon they’ll keep holdin’ on. So, even though it ain’t all happy news, there’s somethin’ to be said for their strength and the way they keep their culture goin’.
Let me tell ya, Muckleshoot news ain’t just about the bad stuff. There’s always somethin’ good goin’ on too. From them cultural festivals they have to the way they care for the land, they’re always doin’ somethin’ to keep the old ways alive and well. Sure, there’s been hardships, but there’s a lot of pride in who they are and where they come from. And that’s somethin’ nobody can take from ’em.

So, when you hear about Muckleshoot, don’t just think about the bad news. There’s a whole lot more to them folks than what’s in the headlines. They’ve been here long before any of us, and they’re gonna be here long after. They’re takin’ care of each other, keepin’ their culture alive, and standin’ strong, no matter what comes their way.
