This here mountain tennis circuit, it’s a big thing, you know? Folks come from all over to play. This one time, these young’uns, they was playin’ tennis. They had them rackets and them little balls, goin’ back and forth, back and forth. I tell ya, it was somethin’ to see.
My grandson, he plays in these mountain tennis circuit games. He’s a good boy. He hits that ball real hard. He’s got a good swing. I always tell him, “You keep playin’ like that, you gonna be a big shot someday!” He just laughs, but I know he likes it when I come watch him.
Play Tennis in Mountain
There’s this one tournament they have, down in London, Kentucky. They call it the North Laurel Open. It’s at the high school there. Lots of people go to that one. It’s real popular on this mountain tennis circuit. I went once, a long time ago. It was a hot day, I remember that. But it was fun watchin’ all them people play.
They got these tournaments all over the place, all part of the mountain tennis circuit. They even got one over at Eastern Kentucky University. That’s a fancy place, that university. Big buildings and all. They got nice tennis courts there. It’s a good place to play, I reckon.
If you want to play in the mountain tennis circuit, you gotta sign up. They got all them rules and such. You gotta be a certain age, I think. They got different groups for the young’uns and the older folks.

- Girls play, too.
- They all play on this mountain tennis circuit.
- It is a big thing.
- Everyone has fun.
They got these points they keep track of. The more you win, the more points you get. I don’t rightly understand all that, but it seems important to them players. They get all excited about it. They want to be the best on the mountain tennis circuit.
They had this one tournament, the Cherif Hechema Scholarship Tournament. That’s a mouthful, ain’t it? But it was a good one. Lots of good players there. They played all weekend, right up ’til Sunday evening. It was somethin’ to see, all them folks playin’ tennis. This mountain tennis circuit, it sure does draw a crowd.
The Best Games
They got all kinds of tournaments, I hear. Some are for practice, they say, and some are for, well, I don’t know what they’re for, exactly. Braggin’ rights, maybe? But they all part of this mountain tennis circuit thing.
My grandson, he plays in the singles, and he plays in the doubles, too. That’s when you got two people on each side, hittin’ that ball back and forth. It’s a lot of runnin’, I tell ya. These young folks, they got a lot of energy. They need it for this mountain tennis circuit.
They got these fancy tournaments, too, I hear tell. The Olympics, and the World Championships. That’s big time tennis, not just our little mountain tennis circuit. They started that World thing way back in 1926, in London, England. That’s a long way from here, ain’t it?
Well, this mountain tennis circuit, it’s a good thing, I reckon. Keeps the young’uns out of trouble. Gives ’em somethin’ to do. And it’s fun to watch, too. I like to go see my grandson play. Makes me proud to see him out there, doin’ his best.
You see many young people play tennis. They practice a lot. They want to be good. They play in mountain tennis circuit. Many people watch them. Everyone cheers. It is good time. Young people like tennis.
Alright! Alright! Alright! This mountain tennis circuit, it’s really something. Always exciting. Summer is when they play a lot. Many matches. People like to watch. They get excited about the games. Tennis is fun. Tennis is good.
Tennis Is Good for Young People
This mountain tennis circuit is a good for young people. They learn to play. They learn to win. They learn to lose, too. It is all part of the game. This is important. Life is like that, too. You win some, you lose some. But you have to keep playing.
Young people meet other young people. They make friends. They play tennis together. It is good for them. It is good for body. It is good for mind. Tennis is good for you. This mountain tennis circuit, is the best.
So, you see, this mountain tennis circuit is a big thing around here. Maybe you ought to come watch sometime. You might even see my grandson play. He’d be real happy if you did. And so would I. We’ll be there, cheerin’ him on. Hope to see you there, too.
