Alright, so I wanted to get into this whole “arcing tennis shot” thing. I’m not a pro or anything, just someone who likes to hit the court every now and then. But I was seeing these fancy shots online and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” No pun intended.
First off, I started watching a bunch of videos. You know, those slow-motion ones where you can see every little movement. I tried to copy what the pros were doing, swinging my racket and all that. I know that there are many types of tennis shots, like forehands, backhands, serves and so on. I decided to choose a shot that I’m not good at. I spent many times on practicing the shot but I didn’t play it well.
Next, I hit the court with a buddy. We started with some basic shots, you know, just to warm up. I’m not getting any younger, so warming up is key. Then, I tried to put some arc on my shots. I remembered reading somewhere to set some goals, so I aimed for consistency first, not power. We practiced for like an hour, just hitting balls back and forth, back and forth.
- Forehands: I tried to add more topspin, make the ball curve.
- Backhands: This one was tough. I focused on my grip and follow-through.
- Serves: I worked on my toss, trying to get it higher and more consistent.
- Volleys: I practiced hitting the ball in the air, trying to give it a little extra loft.
I realized that using these techniques could help me play better, it would give me a new way to play. I kept practicing. Days turned into weeks, and slowly but surely, I started seeing some improvement. My shots were getting a little more arc, a little more height. It felt good, like I was actually learning something new. I decided to play with different players to test my new skills.

I even tried this crazy “tweener” shot – you know, hitting the ball between your legs. Let’s just say it didn’t go as planned, most of the time. But hey, it was fun to try.
Finally, after all that practice, I played in a little local tournament. Nothing big, just a fun weekend thing. And guess what? I actually won a few matches, partly because of those arcing shots. They weren’t perfect, but they were effective. People were surprised, like “Where did that come from?”
So yeah, that’s my story about learning arcing tennis shots. It wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth it. I’m still no pro, but I’m having more fun on the court, and that’s what really matters. And maybe I can use my new skills to win more games in the future! Remember, improving your tennis game doesn’t happen overnight, just practice more and have fun.
