Well now, let me tell ya ’bout them LIV Golf TV ratings. Seems like every time we turn on the telly, there’s somethin’ new folks are talkin’ about. LIV Golf, that newfangled golf league, they been tryin’ to get folks to watch their tournaments on TV, and they been havin’ a bit of a rough time, if ya ask me.
So, it seems like when they first started, they weren’t gettin’ too many folks to sit down and watch. It was like when they first tried puttin’ up them satellite dishes in the village, and folks just couldn’t make heads or tails of it. But now, LIV’s been tryin’ to get a foothold, and they’re hopin’ that the TV ratings will pick up.
The Nielsen folks, you know, they’re the ones that measure how many people are watchin’, well, they’ve been keepin’ track of LIV’s numbers. They say that their ratings—meaning how many folks are watchin’ the tournament on the CW—have been climbin’ a bit. Not a big jump, mind ya, but a little one.
For example, their first event in Mexico, they got over 400,000 folks watchin’. That’s a lot more than I expected, I tell ya. But the next week, in Las Vegas, they averaged around 297,000 viewers. Now, I ain’t no expert, but that sounds like they got a little drop there. Still, it’s somethin’ to build on, I reckon.

Now, compared to the good ol’ PGA Tour, well, that’s a whole ‘nother story. When you look at the numbers for the PGA’s Honda Classic, they’re gettin’ millions of folks tuned in. Last year, over 3 million folks watched, and the year before that, nearly 3 million as well. You can see right there that LIV’s numbers ain’t nowhere near as big, and that’s probably why some folks in the business are scratchin’ their heads.
The thing is, even though LIV’s numbers don’t stack up to the big PGA Tour just yet, there’s still hope for ‘em. It’s like when my grandkids first started learnin’ to walk. At first, they was all wobbly and shaky, but after a while, they started runnin’ around, keepin’ up with the older ones. Maybe that’s what LIV’s doin’, just takin’ their time.
But here’s the kicker—these ratings been droppin’. Over the last nine months, both LIV Golf and the folks runnin’ the PGA have been worryin’ about them saggin’ numbers. It seems like fewer folks are watchin’ golf on TV in general. But that don’t mean golf’s done for—nah, not at all. It just means folks might be choosin’ to watch other things or maybe they’re gettin’ tired of the same ol’ thing.
But you can’t ignore them numbers. When you got millions of folks watchin’ the PGA, and then only a few hundred thousand watchin’ LIV, it’s hard not to notice. You gotta ask yourself, is it the golf that’s the problem, or is it the way they’re puttin’ it on TV? Could be both.
Now, folks at LIV, they got a deal with The CW Network. That’s where you’ll find their tournaments, and it’s a bit different than what the PGA’s doin’. The PGA’s been broadcastin’ on big channels like CBS for years, so they already got a big ol’ audience built up. But LIV, well, they’re still tryin’ to find their place in the world.
It’s not all bad for LIV though. They’re still drawin’ in some folks, just not as many as the PGA. But hey, the year ain’t over yet. Maybe next time, they’ll pull in a few more folks, especially if they can make the games a bit more excitin’. After all, nothin’ draws a crowd like a good ol’ fashioned shootout at the 18th hole.
What’s next for LIV? Who knows. They’ll keep workin’ on it, and hopefully, they can get those TV numbers up. But if they keep bringin’ in folks like they did in Mexico, well, I reckon there’s hope for ’em yet.
Now, I’ve been watchin’ golf for a long time, and I know this much—there ain’t nothin’ like a good ol’ tournament to get folks talkin’. Whether it’s LIV or the PGA, they all got their own way of doin’ things. But one thing’s for sure—golf ain’t goin’ nowhere anytime soon. They’ll keep swingin’ those clubs, and folks will keep watchin’, even if it’s just to see who hits the ball the furthest.
So, let’s see where all this goes. I’ll be right here watchin’, hopin’ that one day LIV can catch up with the big boys. ‘Cause it’s always fun when new folks come to the table, don’t ya think?
