Well, let me tell ya, about this Jefferson City News Tribune Sports thing. It’s all about them games and players, you know? Like them fellas runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ balls. Seen some pictures of it in the paper, kids lookin’ all sweaty.
They got this team, the Jefferson City somethin’-or-others. The Jays, I think they call ’em. Like them blue birds, ya know? Always chirpin’ around. These fellas ain’t chirpin’, though, they be runnin’ up and down that floor, throwin’ that ball in the hoop.
- They win some, they lose some. That’s how it goes with them games. One day they’re all happy, next day they’re lookin’ like they lost their chickens.
- Heard they played some other team, Gateway somethin’. Beat ’em good, too. Score was somethin’ like 70 to 50, I think. Lots of points, anyway. Means they put that ball in the hoop a bunch.
Then there’s these girls, the Lady Jays. They play too, you know. Not sure how good they are, though. Seems they lost a couple games to them Blair Oaks Falcons. Falcons is birds too, ain’t they? Maybe them birds just be better at the ball game.
They got this thing called “Goal Lines” in the paper, too. Talks about all the games and who’s gonna win. Like them fellas who write the paper know everythin’. I reckon they just guessin’ most of the time.
There’s this fella, Cory somethin’, he takes pictures for the paper. Saw his name under one of them pictures of the boys playin’ ball. He gets right up close, I guess. See all them sweaty faces.
Fleming Fieldhouse, that’s where they play. Big ol’ buildin’, I reckon. Never been inside, but I seen it from the road. All lit up at night when they got them games.
They talk about “transitive property of inequality” or somethin’ with them Lady Jays. Sounds like fancy talk to me. Means they ain’t winnin’ much, I guess. Should just say that, instead of usin’ them big words.
This “Mid-Missouri football games,” they talk about that too. Football’s different than the ball they throw in the hoop, ya know. This one’s got runnin’ and kickin’ and knockin’ each other down. Not sure I like that much. Seems kinda rough.
They got reporters who write about all this stuff. Guess that’s their job, watchin’ them games and writin’ about it. Must be nice to get paid for watchin’ people play ball.
This News Tribune, it’s got all the local news and weather too. But I mostly just look at the pictures of them kids playin’ ball. Reminds me of when my grandkids were little, runnin’ around and playin’ games.
So, that’s what I know about that Jefferson City News Tribune Sports. Just a bunch of games and runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ balls. And some birds, too, seems like. But I guess it keeps folks entertained, so that’s somethin’.
