Alright, let’s talk about them tennis injuries, the ones that can mess up a player’s whole career, you know, make ’em stop playing for good. It’s a real shame, seeing these young folks, all strong and energetic, then bam! Something snaps, tears, or just plain wears out, and that’s it, game over.
I heard tell some smart folks did some figuring, and they say a whole bunch of athletes, like, between 14 and 32 percent, gotta quit ’cause of injuries. That’s a lot, ain’t it? Just imagine, you spend your whole life hitting that little yellow ball, running all over the place, and then, poof, it’s all gone.
What gets hurt the most? Well, it’s mostly the stuff they use all the time. You know, their shoulders, from swinging that racket like there’s no tomorrow. Then there’s the elbows, wrists… all that twisting and turning, it ain’t natural, I tell ya. And don’t forget the knees and ankles, all that jumping and running, they take a real beating. Sometimes, it’s just a little sprain or strain, those ain’t so bad, but sometimes it’s real nasty, like them tendonitis and bursitis things, or even worse, dislocations and tears. Heard tell of some folks tearin’ their ACL, that’s a real bad one, can put you out for good, just like that.
- Shoulders
- Elbows
- Wrists
- Knees
- Ankles
- Feet
I remember hearin’ about this girl, real good player, she was, top of the world they said. Then, one day, in some place called Austria, her knee just gave out. Terrible thing, just like that, her career was over. All that hard work, all them trophies, gone. Makes you think, don’t it?

And then there’s this fella, Nadal, they call him. Real fighter, that one. But even he couldn’t outrun them injuries forever. Had all sorts of problems, they said, but he kept comin’ back, kept fightin’. But in the end, even he had to say enough is enough. Heard he’s gonna quit after this Davis Cup thing, sad to see him go, but the body can only take so much, you know?
Another one, del Potro, poor fella. Said he just wants to live without pain. Can you imagine? A young man, wanting to be pain-free more than playin’ the game he loves. He’s havin’ one last match, they say, just to say goodbye. Breaks your heart, it does. They say he had a real “injury-hit career,” that means he got hurt a lot, poor thing.
Then there’s them big shots, Djokovic and Murray. They’re still goin’ at it, seems like. But even them, they ain’t worried ’bout the rankings or the money no more, they just want them big wins, them Grand Slams. Guess they know time’s runnin’ out, bodies ain’t gettin’ any younger. You gotta make hay while the sun shines, as they say.
So yeah, tennis injuries, they ain’t no joke. They can end a career faster than you can say “game, set, match.” It’s a tough sport, all that running and twisting and hitting, it takes a toll. Makes you appreciate them players, what they go through, just to entertain us. And it makes you hope they take care of themselves, listen to their bodies, and don’t push too hard. ‘Cause once it’s gone, it’s gone.
Staying healthy is real important, you know. Gotta listen to your body, don’t push it too hard. And if something hurts, get it checked out, don’t just ignore it. Prevention is better than curin’, that’s what my mama always said. And she was a smart woman, even if she never picked up a tennis racket in her life.
So, next time you watch a tennis match, remember all them players, the ones who made it, and the ones who didn’t. Remember the sacrifices they made, and the pain they endured. It’s more than just a game, it’s their lives, and sometimes, them injuries take it all away.
