So, I was watching a basketball game the other day, and it got me thinking about some of the commentators. One name that popped up was Kenny Smith. I’ve seen him on TV a bunch, talking about basketball, and I got curious: Is this guy in the NBA Hall of Fame?
I started digging around, just to see what I could find. Here’s what I did:
- First, I hit up the usual spots, you know, like searching on the internet. I wanted to get a basic idea of who Kenny Smith is and what he did in his career.
- Then, I looked for any mentions of the Hall of Fame. I was trying to see if his name came up in any articles or lists related to it.
- I also checked out some sports news from the past few months. Sometimes, they talk about who’s getting into the Hall of Fame or who might be considered in the future.
After looking at a bunch of websites, here’s what I figured out:
Kenny Smith played in the NBA for 10 years, from 1987 to 1997. He was with several teams, including the Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks, and the Houston Rockets. He was even nicknamed “The Jet” because he was super fast on the court.

Conclusion
But, here’s the thing: as of now, Kenny Smith is not in the NBA Hall of Fame.
I saw a few places mention that he was drafted in the first round by the Sacramento Kings, which is pretty cool. And, I saw a mention that he’s a “2000 NYC Basketball Hall of Famer”, but that’s not the same as the NBA one. Plus, I saw his name come up in an article about some sports commentators. It mentioned that one of his colleagues, Charles Barkley, is in the Hall of Fame. And, apparently, there was some drama when the NBA on TNT crew was announcing the names of some top players, and Barkley and Smith were yelling about something. One thing is clear, Kenny Smith had a solid NBA career and is now a well-known sports commentator, but he hasn’t made it to the Hall of Fame yet.
It was a fun little investigation, and it’s always interesting to learn more about these sports figures.
