Okay, so, I had to get the team ready for this Hershey soccer tournament, right? It was over Columbus Day weekend. First thing, I checked who all could make it – you know, family stuff, other plans, the usual. Turns out, we had a pretty solid group, which was a relief.
Then, I started looking into the tournament itself. There was still time to apply, and the deadline was, like, July 14, so we were good there. I got all the application stuff sorted – team name, age group, you know, the boring paperwork bits.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Next up, practice. We couldn’t just show up and expect to win, haha. So, I scheduled a few extra practices leading up to the tournament. We worked on passing, shooting, some set pieces – you know, just getting the basics sharp.
- First practice: Focused on passing drills.
- Second practice: Shooting and finishing.
- Third practice: Worked on set pieces like corners and free kicks.
- Fourth practice:Scrimmage to practice in a real-game situation.
The Big Weekend
When the tournament weekend finally rolled around, the boys were pumped. We drove down to Hershey, and I’m not gonna lie, the atmosphere was electric. There were teams everywhere, and everyone was there to play. The 07 boys played their hearts out at the River Soccer Club Columbus Day tournament!

Our first game, we started a bit slow, maybe some nerves. But the boys quickly found their groove and started playing some really good soccer. We ended up winning that one, which was a great way to kick things off.
We played a couple more games that day, some wins, some losses. But the important thing was that the team was having fun and playing hard. Every single one of them gave it their all, and as a coach, that’s all you can ask for.
The second day was more of the same. Tight games, great competition, and the boys just kept battling. We didn’t end up winning the whole thing, but honestly, that wasn’t the point. It was about the experience, the teamwork, and just enjoying the game. We did our best and that’s all that matters. Til next year.
After the last game, we packed up, grabbed some food, and headed home. Everyone was exhausted but in good spirits. It was a long weekend, but definitely one to remember. We’ll be back next year, for sure!
