This here Gulf Coast Cup, it’s a big thing, you know? Lots of folks come from all over to see it. Teams, they come from everywhere, like, you wouldn’t believe.
They got teams from Alabama, and Arkansas. Then there’s Florida, and Georgia, and Louisiana. So many teams. I heard last year, 2023, they had more than 180 teams! Can you imagine that? 180 teams all in one place, playing that soccer.
That Gulf Coast Cup, It’s Something Else
And this year, 2024, they say it’s gonna be even bigger. More teams, more people. It’s all happening in Gulfport, Mississippi. That’s where they play, in Gulfport. They call it the Gulf Coast United Biloxi Gulf Coast Cup College Showcase. That’s a mouthful, ain’t it?
- Alabama teams

They all come to play in the Gulf Coast Cup. It’s a big deal for them young’uns, playing in front of all them college folks.

March 16th and 17th, that’s when it’s happening this year. They had it last year, too, on March 20th and 21st. I reckon they have it every year, ’round that time. Same time, different year.
Rules and Such for the Gulf Coast Cup
Now, they got rules, of course. Gotta have rules, or else it’d be a mess. They got this thing called Gulf Coast United FC, and they make the rules. It says right here, “INFORMATION, GUIDELINES AND RULES.” Lots of rules about this and that.
They got rules for who can play, and how they gotta play. You can’t just do whatever you want, you know. Got to be fair and square with everyone in that Gulf Coast Cup. Everybody is equal. Everyone follows the rules. And that is how it should be.
They even got rules for the parents and them. Can’t be causing trouble, gotta behave yourself. It’s for the kids, you know. Gotta let them play and have fun. It is their future. They have to enjoy it.
And they gotta sign some papers, too. Something about “being allowed to participate.” That’s what it says, “In consideration of being allowed to participate.” I guess that means they gotta promise to be good and follow the rules in Gulf Coast Cup.
That Gulf Coast Cup Is for the Young’uns
They got different age groups, too. U12, U17, U19, U16. I don’t know what all them numbers mean, but I guess it’s for different ages. Boys and girls, they both play. It is a big sport these days.
They call it a “showcase,” this Gulf Coast Cup. Means the young’uns are showing off their skills. Trying to get noticed by them college scouts, I suppose. That’s how they get to go to college, playing that soccer. It’s a big opportunity for them.
And they have it in a place called Foley, Alabama, too. Sometime in December, they said. “Perfect soccer weather,” they call it. I guess it’s nice and warm down there. Good weather to be running around and playing that soccer in Gulf Coast Cup.
