Well, let me tell you, back in 2015, the NHL draft was a real big deal, especially with all them young fellas tryin’ to make a name for themselves. First off, the top name everyone was talkin’ ’bout was Connor McDavid. That boy, he’s a fast one, playin’ center, and he was just the right fit for them Edmonton Oilers. McDavid, he’s tall enough, standin’ 6 feet and weighin’ ’bout 185 pounds, not too shabby for a youngster, eh?
Now, the Oilers, they was just smilin’ ear to ear pickin’ him. Everyone knew that boy would go first. I mean, he’s got the talent, the speed, and knows how to handle that puck real good. Ain’t no surprise there! Then there was Jack Eichel. He’s another top fella, a forward too, and folks were sayin’ he might just give McDavid a run for his money. But nah, McDavid’s the one who got all the attention in 2015. Eichel ended up goin’ second, right to the Buffalo Sabres. They sure needed him.
But hey, it ain’t just them two we gotta talk about. The NHL draft had plenty other names too, some you might not even remember. Dylan Strome, for instance, he went third. He’s a big guy too, a center like McDavid, but he was picked up by the Arizona Coyotes. That team, well, they needed all the help they could get. And then Mitch Marner, that fella’s fast as lightning, the Toronto Maple Leafs snatched him up at number four. Leafs fans, they were cheerin’ like no tomorrow for that boy.
But you see, the draft ain’t all about the top picks neither. There’s a lot of boys tryin’ to get noticed, and sometimes the teams go for someone nobody’s expectin’. I remember folks talkin’ ’bout how the Philadelphia Flyers went and picked Samuel Morin. Now, I didn’t know much about that boy, but he’s a defenseman, and them Flyers musta seen somethin’ special, even if the experts didn’t. That’s the funny thing with these drafts, you just never know who’s gonna surprise you down the road.
- Connor McDavid — First overall pick, Edmonton Oilers
- Jack Eichel — Second overall pick, Buffalo Sabres
- Dylan Strome — Third overall pick, Arizona Coyotes
- Mitch Marner — Fourth overall pick, Toronto Maple Leafs
- Samuel Morin — Picked by Philadelphia Flyers
Then there was that Swedish fella, defenseman, Rasmus Andersson. His stock went up real fast in the months before the draft. Some teams, they love takin’ a chance on a defenseman who’s quick on his feet. You don’t see too many of ’em gettin’ big attention like the forwards do, but when they do good, boy, they can change a game. Andersson was one of them surprises, gettin’ drafted later than some mighta thought, but he sure showed what he’s made of since then.
Now, let’s not forget the Boston Bruins either. They was hopin’ to make a splash in the draft too. Folks had high hopes, sayin’ maybe they’d get a real good pick, but you know how these things go. The Bruins ended up takin’ Jakub Zboril, another defenseman. He’s a bit under the radar compared to some of them top names, but sometimes the quiet ones end up bein’ the most reliable, don’t they?
Anyhow, that 2015 draft, it was one for the books. You had them top fellas like McDavid and Eichel, but don’t forget the fellas picked later. Even them boys in the third round, like Anthony Duclair, sometimes they end up surprisin’ everyone a few years down the road. That’s the beauty of the NHL draft, you never really know who’s gonna be the star down the line. Teams take chances, and us folks just gotta wait and see who ends up showin’ the world what they can do on that ice.
In the end, the 2015 NHL draft sure gave us some stars to keep an eye on. McDavid, he’s been doin’ real well since then, and I reckon we’ll be hearin’ about him for many years to come. But don’t count out them other boys neither, ’cause the NHL, it’s full of surprises!
