Imagine that, comin’ all that way just to kick a ball. My grandson Billy, he kicks rocks, saves us the trouble of haulin’ ‘em off the field.
- They say these boys are the best, the top of the heap. I reckon they gotta be pretty good to get all the way to Disney. That ain’t cheap, you know. All them hotels and them fancy meals. Makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it.
- And the competition, well, it ain’t just about beatin’ the other team. They say it’s about doin’ better than you did before. Pushin’ yourself, like old man Johnson pushin’ that stubborn mule up the hill last spring. That mule, stubborn as a fence post he was.
Now, I don’t know much about soccer, but I know about hard work. These boys, they gotta be puttin’ in the hours, practisin’ and runnin’ and all that. It’s like when I was young, we didn’t have no soccer, we had chores. Milkin’ cows, feedin’ chickens, haulin’ hay. That’ll make you strong, let me tell ya.

It’s about gettin’ back up when you fall down, like that time old Bessie tripped over a root and spilled the whole bucket of milk. Bless her heart, she cried more than the baby did.
