Alright, let’s gab about them basketball courts, you know, the ones them fellas and gals run around on. The NBA and the WNBA, they both got their own thing going, but ain’t they just about the same? Well, kinda, but not really. Let me tell ya what I heard.
First off, both them courts are the same darn length, like 94 feet long. That’s a whole lotta feet, let me tell ya. Imagine walkin’ that much! My old feet would be achin’! But yeah, same length, both of ’em. Makes sense, I guess. They gotta have enough room to bounce that ball and do all them fancy moves.
- Court Length: Same for both, 94 feet.
- Court Width: Both are 50 feet wide. A big ol’ rectangle, just like my garden patch, only bigger and made outta wood, not dirt.
But here’s where things get a little different. See, it’s all about that there three-point line. You know, the line way out yonder where them fellas and gals chuck the ball and if it goes in, they get more points. Well, in the WNBA, that line is a bit closer to the basket. Makes sense, I guess. Them gals, they ain’t always as tall as them fellas, so they gotta have a bit of an advantage.
Now, don’t get me wrong, these gals are strong and can shoot that ball like nobody’s business, but that little bit of distance makes a difference, ya hear? The NBA fellas gotta shoot from further out to get them extra points. It’s kinda like throwin’ horseshoes, the closer you are, the easier it is, right?

Specifically, in the WNBA, that three-point line is about 22 feet and some change from the basket at the top and a bit closer in the corners. In the NBA, it’s more like 23 feet and some change at the top and 22 feet in the corners. See? A whole foot or so difference! That’s a lot when you’re tryin’ to throw a ball into a hoop.
WNBA Three-Point Line:
- About 22.15 feet at the top
- About 21.65 feet in the corners
NBA Three-Point Line:
- About 23.75 feet at the top
- About 22 feet in the corners
Now, why is that? Well, I reckon it’s just ’cause the women are generally shorter than the men, like I said. They gotta make it fair somehow. And, you know, it makes the game a little different, a little excitin’. More long shots in the NBA, maybe a bit more inside play in the WNBA, I guess. I ain’t no expert, just tellin’ ya what I heard.
But one thing that’s the same in both leagues is the basket height. Yep, both of ’em gotta chuck that ball up 10 feet in the air to get it in that hoop. That’s pretty high, let me tell ya. I can barely reach the top shelf in my kitchen, and that ain’t even close to 10 feet. Them basketball players are somethin’ else, tall and jumpin’ all over the place.
Basket Height:
- 10 feet for both WNBA and NBA
So, there ya have it. The WNBA court and the NBA court, mostly the same, but that three-point line, that’s the big difference. It’s all about makin’ the game fair and fun for everyone, the gals and the fellas. And both of ’em are fun to watch, even if I don’t always understand all the rules. It’s just good to see folks runnin’ around and havin’ a good time. And that ball goin’ through the hoop, that’s always a thrill, no matter how far away they shoot it from. It’s like watchin’ my chickens peckin’ corn, only way faster and with more yellin’.
I heard some folks talkin’ ‘bout how it used to be different, and how other leagues have different rules too, even in college and high school, they got their own lines and such. But that’s just too much for my old brain to handle. This here NBA and WNBA stuff is enough for one day, ya hear? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed my chickens. They’re probably wonderin’ where I’ve been all this time talkin’ about basketball.
