Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Charles Watson, and this here WNBA thing. I ain’t no fancy sports person, ya know? Don’t know much ’bout dribblin’ and dunkin’. But I hear things, see things on that there telly-vision, and folks talk, so I got a thing or two to say.
So, this Charles Watson, he’s a referee, see? A ref, they call ’em. He’s the one blowin’ the whistle and makin’ sure them gals play fair in that WNBA. That’s the Women’s National Basketball Association, if ya didn’t know. It’s like the fellas’ basketball, but for the ladies. And lemme tell ya, these gals ain’t no pushovers! They’re tough as nails, runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ that ball like nobody’s business.
Now, Charles Watson, he’s got a tough job. Imagine tryin’ to keep track of all them fast-movin’ gals, makin’ sure nobody’s cheatin’ or foul-mouthin’. It ain’t easy, I tell ya. And sometimes, them gals get a little hot under the collar, ya know? They get all riled up, especially when they think the ref made a bad call.
I heard tell of one time, this gal, Angel Reese, plays for the Chicago Sky, she got real mad at Charles Watson. Somethin’ ’bout a call he made, she didn’t like it one bit. Said it was “bulls**t,” she did. Right to his face! Now, I ain’t one for cussin’, but sometimes, when things get heated, words just fly out, ya know? Well, Charles Watson, he didn’t take kindly to that cussin’. He gave her two of them technical fouls, and boom! She was outta the game. Kicked right out, just like that.

See, that’s the kinda thing Charles Watson gotta deal with. He gotta make the calls, fair and square, even when them gals get all worked up. And let me tell you, those gals are serious about their game. Heard they been playin’ this WNBA since way back in the 90s. They got all sorts of famous players, like that Sheryl Swoopes and Rebecca Lobo, and Lisa Leslie, them gals are real good. And now they got this Charles fella keepin’ ‘em in line.
- They got all sorts of rules and regulations in the WNBA. Can’t just be runnin’ around like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off.
- And the refs, like Charles Watson, they gotta know all them rules. Gotta be quick on their feet and make the right call, fast.
- It ain’t an easy job, but somebody’s gotta do it. And from what I hear, Charles Watson, he’s been doin’ it for a while now. He’s got experience, they say. Worked his way up, I guess.
I even heard tell he’s from Virginia Beach. Now, I ain’t never been to Virginia Beach, but I hear it’s a nice place. Got that ocean and all. Maybe Charles Watson goes fishin’ when he ain’t ref-in’. Or maybe he just sits on the beach, relaxin’, gettin’ ready for the next game. He needs a rest, I bet, after dealin’ with them fired-up gals.
And speakin’ of games, they just had the WNBA finals, see? And they had to pick the refs for them big games. Nine of ’em, they picked. And guess who was one of ’em? Yep, Charles Watson. That tells ya somethin’ right there. They trust him, see? They know he’s gonna do a good job, even when the pressure’s on.
Now, I don’t know all the ins and outs of basketball. But I know fair is fair, and from what I gather, Charles Watson, he tries his best to be fair. He might make a mistake here and there, he’s only human, after all. But he ain’t tryin’ to cheat nobody, and that’s what matters. He’s just tryin’ to keep them gals playin’ by the rules. And that’s important, whether it’s basketball or just plain livin’, ya gotta have rules. Otherwise, it’s just chaos, pure and simple.
So, there ya have it. That’s what I know ’bout Charles Watson and the WNBA. He’s a ref, a tough job, and he seems to be doin’ alright. He keeps them gals in line and makes sure the game is fair. And that’s all you can ask for, ain’t it?
