Well, I gotta tell ya, if you ain’t been payin’ attention to what’s been goin’ on in Carteret County lately, you sure are missin’ out. These young folks around here sure know how to play their sports. Just the other day, the Patriots made it to the third round for the third year in a row. Ain’t that somethin’? I remember when it was a big deal just to make it past the first round, but now, look at ’em go. They’re marchin’ right along, just like they own the field. It’s been a real treat watchin’ ’em play, and if you’re from these parts, you gotta be proud of ’em.
Now, don’t you go thinkin’ that’s all that’s been happenin’. Over in the Mariners’ camp, we’ve got ourselves some real talent too. There was this game, covered by our own J.J. Smith from the News-Times. He went right out there to watch, and let me tell ya, he knows how to tell a story. He mentioned a young fella named Camdyn Ensminger, and from what J.J. says, that boy’s got some moves. I ain’t no expert, but if J.J. says it, it must be true. He don’t just throw around compliments like that. Camdyn and his teammates really gave it their all, and it showed.
And speakin’ of talent, did ya hear about that West Carteret basketball standout? This young sophomore guard, boy, they sure are makin’ a name for themselves. Just last week, they were named the Carteret County News-Times Student-Athlete of the Week. Well, I reckon that’s somethin’ to be proud of! All these young folks are really makin’ the community proud, and it ain’t just on the field or court, neither. These kids are workin’ hard in school too. It’s a good reminder that sports ain’t just about what you do in the game; it’s about puttin’ in the work day in and day out.
But hey, it ain’t all about the big games and the awards. We’ve got folks right here in Carteret County who make sure all these sports are covered. I’m talkin’ about folks like Joe Boy, who do a fantastic job documentin’ the history of sports in our county. Every game, every play, it’s all kept for the future generations to see. A real treasure, if you ask me. All them videos and stories, they’re makin’ sure we don’t forget how hard these kids work, how much effort goes into every single play.
It’s a big deal, y’know, when a small community like ours gets recognized on a bigger stage. It shows that even though we might be small, we’ve got heart, and we’ve got spirit. And the work done by the Carteret County News-Times sports reporters helps remind folks of that. They’re the ones keepin’ track of all this, and I sure do appreciate it. Thank you to them, and thank you to all the athletes out there representin’ our county with pride.
So, if you ain’t been watchin’ these games, I reckon it’s high time you do. You’ll be amazed at what these kids can do. From the Patriots to the Mariners, to the standout athletes over at West Carteret, there’s somethin’ to be proud of in every corner of Carteret County. Keep an eye on ‘em, folks. They’re gonna be doin’ big things for a long time to come.
