Alright, so you wanna know about this Cape Cod baseball thing, eh? Them standings and all that. Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t rocket science, though them fancy folks might try to make it sound that way.
What is this Cape Cod Baseball League anyways?
It’s a bunch of young fellas, you know, college kids, smackin’ balls and runnin’ around in the summer. They say it’s a big deal, helps ’em get to the big leagues, like them fellas you see on TV. They got teams all over, places with funny names like Cotuit and Hyannis… sounds like somethin’ you’d catch, not a town, but what do I know? I’m just tellin’ ya what I heard.
Standings? That Just Means Who’s Winnin’, Right?

Yep, standings is just a fancy word for who’s winnin’ and who’s losin’. You got your teams, and they play a whole bunch of games. The more you win, the higher you are on that list, see? It’s like when we used to have those pie-eatin’ contests at the county fair, the one who ate the most pies, well, they won. Same kinda thing.
- Wins (W): That’s how many games they won. More is better, obviously.
- Losses (L): That’s how many times they got their butts kicked. Less is better.
- Points (PTS): Now, this one gets a little tricky. They give ya points for winnin’, sometimes for ties too, I think. Don’t worry your head too much about it, more points is good, that’s all you gotta know.
- PCT: That’s some kinda percentage thing. It’s like, how good you are compared to everyone else. Higher is better, just like with prices at the grocery store… lower is better there, dang it, gets confusing sometimes!
- GB (Games Back): This tells ya how many games behind the top team you are. So, if the top team got 10 wins and you got 8, you’re 2 games back. Simple as pie.
- STREAK: This is how many games in a row they won or lost. Like, if they won the last three games, it’ll say “W3” or somethin’ like that. If they lost three, well, it’ll be “L3.” You get the picture.
- LAST 10: This just shows you how they did in their last 10 games. Another way to see who’s hot and who’s not.
They got these divisions too, East and West I think they call ‘em. It’s just a way to split up the teams, makes it easier to figure out who’s the best I guess. Like how we used to separate the good chickens from the bad ones, you know, the ones that laid eggs and the ones that just ate all the feed.
Where Can You Find These Standings?
Well, now, that’s the tricky part. These young folks, they got their fancy phones and computers. They look it up online, on some website or somethin’. I heard tell there’s a official Cape Cod Baseball League website. They got all sorts of stuff on there, scores, schedules, and them standings you’re so interested in. I wouldn’t know how to work one of them computer machines myself, but my grandson, he’s a whiz at it. Maybe you got someone who can help ya look it up.
How do you get into this league, you ask? Well, from what I hear, some college coach gotta recommend you. You got to be good enough to play with the best, you know. And you can’t be signed up with any other summer team. They got rules, just like everything else in life.
And if you can’t make it to the games? Well, they got this thing called livestreaming now. You can watch it on your TV or your computer or your phone, wherever you are. Ain’t that somethin’? Back in my day, if you missed the game, you missed the game, that’s all there was to it.
So, there you have it. Cape Cod Baseball League standings in a nutshell. It ain’t so complicated when you break it down. Just a bunch of young fellas playin’ ball, tryin’ to win some games. And folks like you and me, well, we just try to keep up with who’s doin’ good. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my tomatoes.
Regular season standings in 2024 you say? They got teams listed with how many times they won. That’s about as plain as it gets. More wins is better, like I said before.
Now, if you’re still confused, don’t you worry none. Just find yourself a young’un who knows about these things and have ‘em explain it to ya. Or just root for whoever’s got the prettiest uniforms, that’s what I always say!
And if something’s wrong with the stats? They got a League Admin for that, whoever that is. Sounds like a fancy title for someone who keeps track of all the numbers.
That’s about all I can tell ya about them standings. Now go on and enjoy the games, or the scores, or whatever it is you’re after.
