Well, let me tell ya a little somethin’ about this feller named Ben Elenbaas. Now, he ain’t some big city slicker, no sir, he’s a down-to-earth kinda guy, workin’ hard for the folks in Whatcom County, over there in District 5. Ben’s been at this county council business for a good while now, servin’ his second term, which started up in January 2024 and’ll go ’til 2028. He ain’t a stranger to this job, folks, he’s been at it for a long time now.
Ben first got into this council gig back in 2019, when he managed to win the District 5 seat with a mighty big 59% of the vote. Now, that’s a pretty good showin’ if you ask me, especially for someone who’s runnin’ in a district where people might not always see eye to eye on everything. But Ben, he knows how to talk to folks, listen to ’em, and that’s what’s made him stand out.
See, he’s not just a politician standin’ up there wearin’ a suit all day. Ben’s a farmer at heart, and he’s also workin’ as an operations foreman over at BP Cherry Point. That’s a big ol’ job, but he still takes time to get out there and listen to the needs of the people in his district. He’s got a lotta heart, and folks know that. He’s been workin’ his whole life, and he knows the value of hard work.
But now, not everyone’s all happy about Ben runnin’ for re-election. There’s a challenger this time around, Jackie Dexter. Now, she’s a biologist, folks, and she’s got a lot of things to say about how the county should be run. She’s lookin’ to take the seat from Ben, and that’s gonna make this election a mighty interesting one. She says she’s got ideas about marine life and whatnot, but let me tell ya, it’s gonna take more than that to win over the folks in Whatcom County. They know Ben, they trust him, and that’s somethin’ money can’t buy.
Now, folks might be wonderin’ what Ben’s got planned for this second term. Well, if you ask him, he’ll tell ya that Whatcom County needs a strong voice down there in Olympia. He’s been workin’ hard to make sure the county gets what it needs, whether it’s money for roads or helpin’ out with the farmers, or any of the other things people in this area need to make a livin’. He’s always fightin’ for more for the people of his district, and that’s somethin’ people can count on.
It ain’t just about makin’ laws and sittin’ up there on the council. It’s about fightin’ for what’s right, and Ben’s done that. He’s been on the council for a good while, and folks are lookin’ to him to keep up the good work. He’s been in the trenches, listenin’ to the people, and he knows what needs to be done to make things better for everybody. He doesn’t just sit back and let things happen – he gets his hands dirty, like any good farmer would. And that’s the kinda person you want representin’ you on the council.
Now, don’t get me wrong, folks. Jackie Dexter, she’s got some ideas too, and she’s puttin’ herself out there, runnin’ for the spot. But the people of Whatcom County know Ben, they know he’s been workin’ hard for them. He’s not some outsider tryin’ to make promises. He’s right there in the mix, every day, doin’ what needs to be done. And that’s why a lotta folks in District 5 are hopin’ he’ll keep up the good fight for another four years.
So, come this November, when the votes are counted, we’ll see if the people of Whatcom County want to keep Ben around for another term, or if they think it’s time for a change. But one thing’s for sure: it’s gonna be an interestin’ race, and we’ll all be watchin’ to see who comes out on top.
