Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole NBA mouthguard thing. It’s kind of interesting, actually.
First, I tried to find out why some NBA players wear these things, and some don’t. Seems like the ones who do wear them, are mostly using the custom-fit ones. I guess it makes sense, right? You want something that’s made just for your mouth, that fits perfectly, and doesn’t feel like you’re chewing on a brick.
I got curious and looked up some videos and articles. There was this talk about some players, Wiggins and Brown, maybe wearing them as a fashion statement. Brown, he said something about “changing up the drip” and “trying to be a trendsetter.” Sounds cool, I guess. Fashion over function, maybe?
- Watched some NBA games, paying extra attention to who’s wearing a mouthguard and who isn’t.
- Read a few articles about custom-fit mouthguards.
- Dug up some quotes from players about why they wear (or don’t wear) them.
What I did:
Then there’s this brand, Gladiator, that LeBron James apparently uses. They say their mouthguards are “thinnest” because of some “patented cut design.” Sounds fancy, but I don’t know, I’m not a dentist.
So, I decided to try one of these custom-fit mouthguards myself. I went through the whole process of getting my teeth impressions done, it’s a bit of a hassle but not too bad. Sent those off, waited a couple of weeks, and finally, I got my custom mouthguard in the mail. It’s not that bad! I mean it’s not that comfortable, but maybe I should try more. But I must say, I really do feel protected! Maybe one day I will try other brand, but not now, I think.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with NBA mouthguards. It was fun checking it all out. Maybe you should try it out, too!
