Okay, so, I signed up for this long drive contest at my local golf course. I’ve always been able to hit the ball pretty far, but I wanted to see how I stacked up against other guys who really let it rip. Here’s how it all went down.
First off, I went to the driving range a few times to warm up and get a feel for things. I was focusing on just trying to hit it as far as possible. You know, like swinging for the fences. I was hitting them pretty good, but I also noticed that my accuracy wasn’t that great, but accuracy isn’t the point of a long drive contest. So I kept practicing.
Getting Ready
On the day of the contest, I got there early to get a good spot on the range and hit some balls. I saw some other guys warming up, and man, some of them were absolutely crushing it. Intimidating, for sure, but I tried not to let it get to me. I just focused on my own swing and tried to stay loose.
The way the contest worked was pretty simple. We each got six balls and two minutes and 30 seconds to hit them. The longest drive that landed in the grid counted. They had this grid marked out on the fairway, like a big rectangle, to make sure drives were somewhat straight. Not too much room for error, but enough to let you really go after it. Oh, and you had to use a USGA-approved club, no longer than 48 inches. I had my trusty driver that I’ve used for years, so I felt pretty good about that. And the golf course had one of those markers that they’d move around to mark the longest drive.

My Turn to Hit
When it was my turn, I stepped up to the tee, took a deep breath, and tried to clear my mind. The first couple of balls, I felt a little tense, and I didn’t quite catch them flush. They went okay, but not as far as I wanted. I could hear the other guys watching, and I definitely felt the pressure.
But then, I remembered something a pro had said about getting taller in the backswing to generate more power. I tried to focus on that, lifting my body up a bit more on the backswing. And bam! I connected with one perfectly. It felt amazing coming off the clubface, and I watched it soar down the fairway. It landed way out there, right in the middle of the grid.
The Result
I hit a few more after that, but none of them were as good as that one big drive. When everyone was finished, they measured all the drives, and guess what? Mine was the longest! I couldn’t believe it. I actually won the darn thing. All those other guys who looked like they were going to crush me, and I came out on top. They moved the marker to my ball, way out there on the fairway.
It was a really cool experience. Not only did I win, but I also learned a lot about my swing and how to handle the pressure of competition. And I got to see some seriously impressive drives. If you ever get a chance to enter one of these contests, I’d say go for it. It’s a blast!
