Okay, so I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while now – the 2023 American Legion World Series. What a wild ride that was! First off, let me just say, I’m a huge baseball fan, always have been. So when I heard about this tournament, I knew I had to follow it.
I started by doing some digging online, just to get the basics down. I learned that it’s held every August in Shelby, North Carolina. This year, it was from August 10th to 15th. Shelby – that’s a name I won’t forget. I also found out that this was the 96th time they’ve had this tournament. 96th! That’s some serious history right there.
Then, I started looking into the teams. Man, there were some good ones. One that really caught my eye was League City (Tex.) Post 554. I don’t know why, maybe it was the name, but I decided to follow them closely. I saw that they played in the Region 7 Tournament held in Gillette, WY, from August 2-6. Seemed like a good team.
The games started, and I was glued to my screen. League City, my team, they kicked things off with a no-hit shutout! Can you believe that? A no-hitter in their first game! I was already feeling good about my choice.

- Game after game, they kept winning. It was so exciting!
- They were playing against Lincoln (Neb.) Post 3 in the championship. Tense stuff!
The championship game was a nail-biter. It ended up being 1-0. Just one run decided the whole thing! And guess what? League City won! My team actually did it! They won the whole darn thing!
The Winning Moment
I remember jumping up and down when they got that final out. My neighbors probably thought I was crazy. But I didn’t care. League City, the team I randomly decided to follow, won the 2023 American Legion World Series. And it was Jacob Cyr who was named MVP. What a player!
It was such a cool experience following this tournament. I felt like I was a part of something big, even though I was just watching from my computer. Baseball, man. It’s more than just a game. It’s about the stories, the underdogs, the triumphs. And this year, it was League City’s story that I got to witness.
What a ride!
