Okay, so, I’ve been kinda obsessed with tennis lately, and I got it into my head that I wanted to see if I could break some records. Not like, world records or anything, but just, you know, push myself. So I decided to focus on the fastest tennis serve.
First things first, I had to do some digging to see what the current record is. Turns out, it’s held by this dude named Sam Groth. He blasted a serve at 263.4 km/h, which is like, 163.7 mph. That’s insane! There are some other names like Albano Olivetti, John Isner, and Ivo Karlovic in the top 4 too, they served over 250 km/h. I saw Novak Djokovic also did a serve of 208 km/h, that’s also very impressive.
So, I’m thinking, “Okay, I’m not gonna beat that, but maybe I can get close?” Yeah, I know, pretty ambitious for a guy whose idea of a workout is playing video games all day. But hey, gotta have goals, right?
I started by watching a bunch of videos of these pros serving. I mean, they make it look so effortless. Their arms are like whips, and the ball just explodes off the racket. I tried to copy their form, but man, it’s way harder than it looks. My serves were all over the place, and my arm started to feel like it was gonna fall off after like, ten minutes.

But I didn’t give up. I figured I needed some help, so I got a friend who’s actually good at tennis to give me some pointers. He showed me how to hold the racket properly, how to toss the ball, and how to use my legs to generate power. It was a lot to take in, but I started to see some improvement.
- Day 1: My serves were still pretty weak, like maybe 100 km/h at best. But at least they were going over the net.
- Day 2: I focused on my toss and my footwork. My friend said I was throwing the ball too far to the side, and I wasn’t getting enough push from my legs.
- Day 3: I started to get the hang of it. My serves were definitely faster, and I was hitting the service box more consistently. I think I hit around 150 km/h today. I felt a bit tired.
- Day 4: I kept practicing, trying to get that whip-like motion with my arm. It’s tough, man. My shoulder was killing me. I didn’t do it for too long.
- Day 5: I think I hit my fastest serve today! It felt really good, like I connected perfectly. I don’t have a radar gun or anything, but I’d guess it was around 180 km/h, maybe.
The Result
So, I didn’t break any records, obviously. But you know what? I’m still pretty proud of myself. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, learned a new skill, and got a decent workout in the process. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll get closer to that 263.4 km/h. Or maybe not. Either way, it was a fun experiment. I will keep practicing though. Now I just need to work on my backhand…
