Okay, so I gotta tell you about this whole 2026 WNBA mock draft thing I’ve been messing around with. I saw some folks talking about it online, somewhere around July 10th, I think? They were going on and on about who’s gonna be picked first, who’s gonna be the next big star, all that jazz. And me, being the curious cat that I am, I thought, “Why not give it a shot myself?”
So I started digging around. First, I needed to figure out how this whole draft thing works. Turns out, the order of the picks is decided after the season ends. The teams that don’t do so hot get the first picks, which makes sense, I guess. They need the most help, right? And the top four picks, those are decided by some lottery thingy. I didn’t quite get that part, but hey, it sounded exciting.
Next, I needed to know who to pick! I found this one list talking about a player named Olivia Miles. Apparently, she plays for Notre Dame, which I think is a college? They said she’s a point guard, which I guess means she’s good at passing the ball? This list had her going to the Los Angeles Sparks as the number two pick. They said the Sparks already got some good “frontcourt” players last year, whatever that means.
I made a list of the teams that are probably not going to do so well next year, you know, based on how they’re doing now and some rumors I heard. Then I tried to match them with players I found on some lists online. It was like putting together a puzzle, except the pieces kept changing, because, you know, people change their minds and stuff. I kept swapping players around, trying to figure out who would fit best where. It was kind of fun, actually, like being a real coach or something.

I spent a few days on this, on and off. You know, checking some news here, looking at player stats there. It’s not like I had anything better to do, right? Plus, it was a nice break from my usual routine.
After a while, I had this whole mock draft thing put together. It’s probably not perfect, but hey, I gave it my best shot. It was a fun little project, and it got me thinking about basketball, which I haven’t done in a while. Maybe I’ll even watch a game or two next season. Who knows?
So yeah, that’s my story about the 2026 WNBA mock draft. It was a fun way to kill some time and learn a little something new. Maybe I’ll do it again next year, we’ll see.
- Started by seeing some chatter online about the 2026 draft.
- Learned about how the draft order is decided.
- Found some lists of potential players.
- Made my own list of teams and tried to match them with players.
- Spent a few days tweaking and adjusting my mock draft.
- Finished it up and felt pretty good about it!
My Thoughts
It was a surprisingly fun and engaging process. I enjoyed the “research” part of it, even though I’m no expert. It was like solving a fun little puzzle, and it made me appreciate the strategy that goes into these drafts. Would I do it again? Maybe! It’s a good way to stay connected to the sport, even if it’s just in my own little way.
