Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz lately about baseball cards, and it got me thinking about this one player, Ron Guidry. I used to collect cards as a kid, so I went digging through my old boxes to see if I had any of his.
First off, I had to remember who Ron Guidry even was! It took a bit of Googling, but it came back to me. He was a pitcher for the Yankees, nicknamed “Louisiana Lightning” and “Gator.” Pretty cool nicknames, right? Apparently, he started in the majors in 1975 and was part of those awesome World Series-winning teams in ’77 and ’78. Even won the Cy Young Award in ’78 – that’s a big deal for a pitcher.
Once I refreshed my memory, I started searching online for Ron Guidry baseball cards. I found out that his cards are in at least five different sets, which is a lot! I saw that some of his big price movers recently were his 1976 Topps Rookie Pitchers card and his 1977 Topps card.
I spent a good chunk of time going through all these different websites that sell cards. One site had a full checklist of all his cards, which was super helpful. Another one had a huge selection from different sellers, which was cool because I could get a bunch of cards shipped together.

My Goal
- Find some of my old Ron Guidry cards.
- See if any of them are worth anything.
- Maybe buy a few more to add to my collection.
Then I started actually looking through my old collection. It was like a trip down memory lane, seeing all those cards again! I found a couple of Guidry cards, but they weren’t in the best condition. One was a 1976 O-Pee-Chee, which I guess is the Canadian version of Topps. It was pretty beat up, though.
I checked the prices of the cards I found online, but they weren’t worth much in their condition. Still, it was fun to find them and remember those days.
After that, I decided to treat myself and buy a few more Guidry cards online. I found a couple in really good condition, including that 1977 Topps card I mentioned earlier. I also grabbed a 2005 Playoff Absolute card, just because I thought it looked cool.
All in all, it was a fun little project. I got to rediscover a player I had forgotten about, and I ended up adding some cool cards to my collection. Who knows, maybe I’ll get back into collecting again! It’s definitely a fun hobby, even if you don’t end up with a “Mona Lisa” card like that famous Wagner one. But honestly, it’s not always about the money, right? Sometimes it’s just about the memories and the fun of the hunt.
