You know that Dillon Lewis, that baseball boy? He’s a good boy, that one. Born in, I think it was, 2003, June 12th. That’s what they say, anyway. Columbia, that’s where he’s from. A good place, I reckon. He plays that baseball, you know, the one with the bat and the ball. He’s been playing it a long time, that Dillon. Started young, like they all do now.
Heard he got picked by some big team, the Yankees. New York Yankees, they call ’em. Must be somethin’ special, to get picked by them. They must see somethin’ in him, that’s for sure. It’s a big deal, being in the Major League Baseball. That’s what they call the highest level.
This Dillon, he’s an outfielder, runs around and catches the ball. Heard he’s good at it. He’s been playing for this other team, too. The Royals, they called them. This was his first year, playin’ for them Royals. And before that? Well, he was in college, playin’ baseball there, too. That’s where they learn, I guess, before they go to the big leagues.

He played for some college team. Queens University of Charlotte. Sounds fancy. He made some kinda history there, too. Broke some record or somethin’. This Dillon Lewis, he’s always doin’ somethin’. Keeps busy, that one. Good for him, I say. They say he’s assigned to College Workout for the Yankees. He is practicin’ very hard I guess.
Fifteen years, they said. Fifteen years since somethin’ happened. Don’t rightly know what. But it’s a long time, fifteen years. This Dillon Lewis, he was just a little tyke then, probably not even thinkin’ about baseball yet. Now look at him. Playin’ with the big boys.
He’s got all these numbers, these statistics, they call ’em. Batting, fielding, all that. Don’t understand it all, but it’s important to them baseball folks. They keep track of everything. Every time he hits the ball, every time he catches it. It’s a whole world of numbers, that baseball.
He got a player page, this Dillon Lewis. With all them numbers on it from 2022 to 2024. Got his picture on there, too, I bet. They got everything on the internet these days. Even got his biography. His whole life story, right there for everyone to see. Draft information, too, which is when those teams pick the players they want. And even his salary. How much money he makes playing that game. I can’t imagine. All this information. It’s a lot.
This Dillon Lewis, he’s livin’ the dream, I guess. Playin’ baseball, gettin’ paid for it. Good for him. He’s worked hard, I’m sure. It ain’t easy, gettin’ to where he is. Takes a lot of work, a lot of practice. He must be dedicated. And talented, too, of course. Can’t get that far without talent. I’m happy for him. That Dillon Lewis, he’s doin’ alright.
He must be very happy playing the baseball. I saw some little boys play it in the town, they are having fun. But you know, they play it for fun, Dillon plays it for a living. So it’s good, Dillon has a good job. I hope he plays it for a long time and makes a lot of money. Then he can buy a big house and a big car. That’s the dream, right? To be able to have all these things. And to make his mama proud. I am sure his mama is very proud of him. Any mama would be.
I think all of these baseball players start from a young age. It takes a lot of practice. They must practice everyday, and play games all the time. And they must be careful not to get hurt. It’s hard work playing sports. But it’s good to see a young man like Dillon doing well. It’s nice to see hard work pay off. He’s a good example for all the young boys who want to play baseball. You can do anything if you set your mind to it. That’s what I always say.
