That WWE, oh boy, it’s somethin’ else. I tell ya, when they come to Memphis, it’s a big ol’ hootenanny. Everybody and their brother’s gotta go see it. It’s like the circus comin’ to town, but with more muscles and spankies.
My nephew, he’s crazy ’bout this WWE stuff. He watches it on that there Netflix thing, now I hear. He says it’s gonna be on there all the time now, or something like that. Back in my day, we didn’t have all this fancy television. We had to listen to the radio, and that was it.
But this WWE in Memphis, it’s a spectacle. You got all them big ol’ fellas, jumpin’ around and slammin’ each other. Reminds me of when ol’ Bessie the cow got loose and ran through the cornfield. A whole lotta commotion, that’s for sure. They got that one fella, Cody Rhodes, I think his name is. My nephew, he just loves that guy.
- Cody Rhodes
- Damian Priest
- That Trick Williams fella
They got all kinds of these fellas, I tell ya. Saturday Night’s Main Event, that’s a big one. Used to be big a long time ago, now it’s back again, my nephew says. Like a, what’s that word… a revival! That’s it. He says it was in Long Island, New York. What a place, must be fancy.

They got all these fancy names for these things they do, too. They got somethin’ called Deadline and somethin’ called Crown Jewel. Sounds like somethin’ out of one of them fancy magazines my daughter reads. And they got all these belts, too. World Heavyweight Championship, they call one of ’em. Sounds heavy. Probably weighs more than my old churn.
I seen some of them highlights, they call ’em, on the YouTube. It’s all them best parts, all put together. Jumpin’ and hollerin’, and carryin’ on. My nephew, he showed me the Best WWE Moments Of November. He says it was a good month, whatever that means. November’s just when the leaves fall off the trees to me. I don’t know nothin’ about good months in wrestlin’.
They got this one girl, Giulia, that’s what my nephew says her name is. She’s a tough cookie, I reckon. And that Stephanie Vaquer, too. And that Oba Femi. Wrestlin’ used to be a man’s world, not no more, I guess. Women is doin’ everythin’ now. Good for them. They got that one fella, what’s his name… Trick Williams, he’s the NXT Champion, that’s what they call it, I think. My nephew, he knows all these things.
Memphis Wrestling, that was the thing back in my day, back in the ’70s and ’80s. It was real big around here, you couldn’t swing a cat without hittin’ a wrestlin’ fan. Now it’s on the Roku. They got all these things that stream on the TV now, it’s all so different from my time. They got somethin’ called Best of Memphis Wrestling 1986. My nephew showed me. I remember some of them fellas from back then. Good times, good times.
This whole WWE thing, it’s a big deal. Folks get all riled up about it. Especially when they come to Memphis. It’s like the biggest thing since sliced bread, I reckon. I don’t understand all of it, but I know it makes my nephew happy, and that’s all that matters. He’s a good boy, even if he does spend too much time watchin’ that wrestlin’ on the TV.
They had three title matches, that’s what my nephew told me, last time they was around in Long Island. That must have been one heck of a show. I wouldn’t mind seein’ that myself. Those fellas put on a show, I tell you what. They’re like gladiators, or somethin’. From one of them old movies. My nephew showed me one of them, too. They got all kinds of movies now, too. Back in my day, we just had the one picture show down at the Bijou. Cost a nickel to get in. Now you got all these movin’ pictures right there on your TV. It’s a crazy world, ain’t it?
Well, I guess that’s all I got to say about that WWE in Memphis. It’s a big to-do, that’s for sure. If you get a chance to see it, you probably should. Might be the most excitement you see all year. Unless Bessie gets loose again. Then all bets are off.
