Alright, listen up, y’all. We gonna talk about this 2017 NFL draft thing, ya hear? I ain’t no fancy expert, but I know a good player when I see one. And some of them teams, well, they messed up somethin’ fierce. So, we gonna fix it, we gonna do a redraft, like they say. That means we pretendin’ we can go back and pick all over again, knowin’ what we know now.
First off, that Cleveland Browns team. Bless their hearts, they always messin’ up. They picked that Myles Garrett fella first. He’s good, real good, strong as an ox. But, lemme tell ya, there’s a fella even better. That Patrick Mahomes kid from Texas Tech. Now, he’s a quarterback, a real game-changer. If the Browns had any sense, they’d a picked him first, no question. He throws the ball like a rocket, and he can run too! So, yeah, first pick, Mahomes to Cleveland. That’s how it shoulda been.
Now, who goes second? Well, the San Francisco 49ers, they took Solomon Thomas. He ain’t bad, but he ain’t no Myles Garrett. So, we keepin’ Garrett at number two. He’s a beast on defense, and every team needs a fella like that. He’d make them 49ers tough, real tough.
- Pick 1: Cleveland Browns – Patrick Mahomes, QB
- Pick 2: San Francisco 49ers – Myles Garrett, DE
Alright, next up, the Chicago Bears. They picked Mitchell Trubisky, another quarterback. But honey, he ain’t no Mahomes. He was a bust, plain and simple. So, we gotta get them Bears a good player. I’m thinkin’ about that Christian McCaffrey fella. He can run, he can catch, he can do it all. He’s a real workhorse, that one. Bears could use a fella like that, someone who can carry the ball and make things happen. So, McCaffrey to the Bears at number three.
Then comes the Jacksonville Jaguars. They picked Leonard Fournette, a runnin’ back. He’s alright, powerful runner, but he got hurt a lot. And now, looking back, that Jamal Adams safety is the real deal. Tough as nails, hits like a truck, a leader on defense. Jaguars need some of that toughness, so Adams is their guy at number four.
Now, the Tennessee Titans. They took Corey Davis, a wide receiver. He was okay, but not great. We gonna give them someone better. How about Tre’Davious White, that cornerback? He’s sticky in coverage, and he can make interceptions. Good cornerbacks are hard to find, and the Titans would be lucky to have him. White goes to Tennessee at number five.
The New York Jets are up next. They picked Jamal Adams, but he’s gone now. We need to get them someone who can catch the ball. Cooper Kupp, that’s the fella. He runs good routes and he catches everything. He’d be a star in New York. The Jets need an offensive weapon, so Kupp goes to them at number six.
The Los Angeles Chargers, they picked Mike Williams, another wide receiver. He’s big and strong, but he wasn’t always consistent. How about we give them George Kittle, the tight end? He’s a monster, can block and catch. He’d be a perfect fit for the Chargers offense. Kittle to the Chargers at number seven.
The Carolina Panthers, they took Christian McCaffrey. But he is gone now, remember? So we gotta find them someone to help out their defense. How bout that Ryan Ramczyk, the right tackle? He’s a big ol’ fella, strong as a bear. He can protect the quarterback and open up holes for the runnin’ backs. Panthers need some beef on the offensive line, so Ramczyk is their guy at number eight.
The Cincinnati Bengals picked John Ross, a speedy wide receiver. He was fast, but he couldn’t stay healthy. And they definitely messed that up. We gonna give them Alvin Kamara. He’s a home-run hitter, that one. He can make people miss, and he can score touchdowns. Kamara would add some excitement to that Bengals offense, even if they already got Mixon, two is better than one, ain’t it? So Kamara to the Bengals at nine.
And finally, the Buffalo Bills. They traded up to pick Patrick Mahomes, but he’s long gone in our redraft. So they gotta settle for somethin’ else. They went for Tre’Davious White but he’s gone too! Let’s give them Marshon Lattimore, another good cornerback. He’s got good instincts, and he can make plays on the ball. Bills need help in the secondary, so Lattimore is their guy at number ten.
Now, I know this ain’t perfect, and some folks might disagree. But that’s just my two cents, ya hear? This 2017 draft coulda been a whole lot different if them teams had just listened to an old woman like me. They make mistakes, these young fellas, always in a hurry. Sometimes you just gotta slow down and think things through. That’s the key to pickin’ good football players, and that’s the key to life, I reckon.
This redraft ain’t just about pickin’ better players. It’s about buildin’ a team, a whole team, with guys who can play together and win together. You need a good quarterback, sure, but you also need strong defense, good runners, and fellas who can catch the ball. And most important you need tough guys, players who ain’t afraid to get dirty and fight for every inch. That’s what makes a winning team, and that’s what I tried to do with this redraft.
