Well, let me tell ya ’bout this East Coast Shootout thing. It’s some kinda big deal, ya know? They got all these young’uns runnin’ around, playin’ games. Basketball, soccer, all sorts of stuff.
Sounds like a real hootenanny, if ya ask me. Kids these days, they got so much energy! Back in my day, we just played hopscotch and maybe threw a ball around if we were feelin’ fancy.
This East Coast Shootout, it ain’t just one thing, though. Seems like there’s a bunch of ’em. They got one in the spring, a “Spring Shootout,” they call it. Happens every year, near as I can tell. Some in March, some in April. Different places, too. New Jersey, Virginia… Heck, I don’t even know where all them places are! Too far for my old bones, that’s for sure.
- They got basketball, that’s for sure. Lots of dribblin’ and runnin’. Makes me dizzy just thinkin’ ’bout it.
- And soccer, too! Kickin’ that ball all over the place. Don’t they ever get tired?
They say it’s for all levels, these shootouts. Means the little tykes can play, and the bigger ones too. Guess that’s nice. Everyone gets a chance to show off, I reckon. They even got teams, like this “Team Melo” from Baltimore. Sounds fancy, huh?

East Coast Spring Shootout… I heard it’s a “pre-season event.” What in the tarnation does that even mean? Pre-season? Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me. Just play the game, that’s what I say! Don’t need all them fancy words.
They talk about “quality matches.” Well, I hope they are quality! Nobody wants to watch a bunch of kids just standin’ around, doin’ nothin’. Gotta have some action, some excitement! That’s what makes it fun, right?
I saw somethin’ ’bout “Powered by Exposure Basketball Events.” Sounds like them fellas are the ones puttin’ on the show. Gotta give ’em credit, I guess. Organizin’ all them kids must be like herdin’ cats!
And they got websites and stuff. For more information, they say. Well, I ain’t got no computer, so I guess I’ll just have to take their word for it. Too much technology these days, if you ask me. Give me a good ol’ newspaper any day.
They even got somethin’ called the “Target USA Cup.” Now, that one’s a big one, they say. Biggest in the whole “Western Hemisphere”! Where’s that, anyway? Sounds far away. They hold it at some “National Sports Center” in Blaine. Never heard of it.
But this East Coast Shootout, it seems like a good thing for the young’uns. Keeps ’em busy, keeps ’em outta trouble. And who knows, maybe one of them will even make it big someday. Become a famous basketball player or soccer star. Wouldn’t that be somethin’?
Anyway, that’s all I know ’bout this East Coast Shootout. Just a bunch of kids playin’ games. Nothin’ too complicated. Just good ol’ fashioned fun, I guess. At least, I hope it is. Kids these days, they need a little fun in their lives.
So, there ya have it. My two cents on the East Coast Shootout. Not that my two cents are worth much these days, but there it is.
