Alright, let’s talk about these big fellas in the NBA, the ones they call the “fattest.” I don’t like that word, “fat,” sounds mean. Let’s just say they’re… sturdy, yeah, sturdy players.
Now, I heard tell of this fella, Oliver Miller. They say he was the heaviest of ’em all, weighed in at 375 pounds! Can you imagine? That’s like two of me, and then some! He played for a bunch of teams, the Suns and the Raptors, folks say. Nine seasons he lasted, that’s a long time for a big fella to be runnin’ up and down that court.
Then there’s this Jusuf Nurkić fella. He’s still playin’, they tell me. Seven feet tall and 290 pounds. Lord, that’s a mountain of a man! He’s what they call “active,” meanin’ he’s still playin’ in the league right now. He’s gotta eat a whole heap of food to keep that frame goin’, I reckon.
- Now, I ain’t watchin’ much of these games myself, my old eyes ain’t what they used to be, and the TV’s always flickerin’. But I hear things, you know, from the neighbors and such.
- They talk about Shaq, that big fella, and Yao Ming, the one from China, they say he was real tall too. Folks say their weight, it mattered in their careers, made ’em strong, but maybe slowed ’em down some too. Don’t know the details, just what I hear.
Someone was tellin’ me about Tacko Fall. 311 pounds, they say. He’s young, only 28. That’s a lot of weight to carry around, even for a tall fella. And then there’s Boban Marjanović. That’s a mouthful of a name, ain’t it? He’s Serbian, I think, weighs 290 pounds. All these big boys, makes you wonder what they eat for breakfast.

I heard someone mention James Bass, but he ain’t so heavy. 6-10, 200 pounds, they say. That’s tall and skinny, not like these other fellas. He’s from some place called Dakar, Senegal. Signed with UT Martin, whatever that is. Good for him, I guess, gettin’ that education.
You know, bein’ big ain’t always easy. I remember my cousin Jeb, he was a big fella. Always huffin’ and puffin’ just walkin’ to the mailbox. These basketball players, they’re runnin’ and jumpin’ all over the place. Gotta be hard on their joints, I imagine. But they’re strong, those big boys, real strong. Can move people outta the way like they ain’t nothin’.
I guess it takes all kinds to make a team. You got your fast little fellas, and then you got your big, strong ones. They all gotta work together, that’s what I hear. Like a team of horses pullin’ a wagon, gotta pull in the same direction.
So, yeah, those are some of the “fattest” players in the NBA, or the sturdy ones, as I like to call ’em. They’re big, they’re strong, and they make their mark on the game. Whether they’re the heaviest ever, like Oliver Miller, or still playin’ today, like Jusuf Nurkić, they’re all part of the story of basketball.
Anyways, that’s all I know about it. I’m just an old lady, what do I know about basketball? But I do know a thing or two about people, and those big fellas, they’re somethin’ else.
